It was a lovely day celebrating GFS World Day of Prayer with GFS Sydney members, families and friends at St John’s Camden on the afternoon of Sunday 29th September.
We are so blessed we could all come together for a beautiful service led by our chaplain Stephanie Adams. Thank you to Camden GFS for hosting and for a yummy afternoon tea and it was extra special having Gail Orchard from GFS Newcastle join us.
GFS is currently active in over thirty countries of the world who all gathered for the World Day of Prayer in their own area sharing the gospel message of Jesus. A different country is asked to prepare the service each year. This year the service was prepared by GFS USA. The theme was “Faith, Hope and Love” (1 Corinthians 13:13)
As well as praying for members GFS also practically supports members of one country through a World Project. This year the World Project is for the GFS in the Democratic Republic of Congo to set up a training project in Lubumbashi where a bakery has been opened. The project started with the recruitment of young girls who joined GFS. This enables follow up even after training. These groups of young girls with a group leader learn basic pastry skills and business skills for future employment and small cottage industries. They then report back to headquarters each month and it is hoped that they will meet at least once a month to share their experiences and help each other.
The offertory collected from this World Day of Prayer Service at Camden has been sent towards this current World Project.
