High Tea Remembering Ev

An afternoon high tea was held at Dawn’s home on 5th May to remember our dear friend Ev  and to share stories of her life and work as part of the GFS family. On arrival we were welcomed by “Mary the Maid” (Phillippa dressed as a maid) serving cold drinks in Dawn’s spacious lounge which had seats for all of us. Lyn welcomed us on behalf of Dawn which was followed by a prayer by Lynne then Deidree began with her special memories of Ev with whom she had had a long and loving friendship even being co-opted as Ev’s secretary for a time and helping with Ev’s many commitments as a GFS Australian Chairman. Deidree recalled hearing of Ev’s years as a ballerina working at many venues; she was a very talented lady doing something she really loved. Ev gave so much of herself to GFS in various roles being Australian Chairperson which involved overseas travel where she made many friends and in turn she was always ready to welcome travellers to her home with husband Norm by her side. Ev was an avid letter writer (no computers then) making cards and encouraging many. Her artistic ability is remembered by many including her delicate china painting, craft and cards. Many of those present brought along gifts that she had given them over the years which she had made. Of the 30 plus people present many happy memories of Ev were shared and maybe a few tears but all with happy hearts to remember such a remarkable lady and her dedication to GFS, doing as our Saviour led her and being a wonderful witness for us all.

Following on from all these memories we moved into the dining room and shared a special afternoon tea. The high tea was prepared by Dawn and her helpers and we were treated to tables laden with 3 tiers of savouries, sandwiches, petit fours and many other treats. Tea and coffee were served in Dawn’s best china cups by her very willing granddaughters. It was all delicious and a rare treat to be seated with so many people from the GFS family. When it was time to leave, Jennie  presented all of us with a specially engraved tea spoon as a
memory to the beautiful time we had shared.

A special thank you to Dawn and all her wonderful helpers for a very memorable afternoon in tribute to an amazing member of the GFS family, Ev.
